Romont, Western Switzerland

Romont is located 22 km south-west of the city of Friborg, capital of the canto of the same name. Its altitude is between 707 m (the station) and 780 m (the castle, located on the hill).

The history of Romont is marked by several large fires: 1434 the city is largely destroyed, 1476 the city is burned by the Confederates after the Battle of Murten, 1589 fire in the rue des Béguines, 1843 fire in the rue de la butcher’s shop and bourgeois hospital, 1853 fire on the Grand-rue, 1863 fire on the rue de l’Eglise, 1864 fire on the rue des moines, 1865 fire in the hamlet of Chavannes.
