Medellin – a Spanish town that 5 cities have been named after.

This now little know town has given birth to Hernan Cortes, famous conquistador responsible for the fall of the Aztec empire and colonisation of what is modern day Mexico. The name Medellin comes from a Roman general Quintus Caecilius Metellus.Pius who established a military base where modern day Medellin is located. The town has some roman ruins including a well preserved amphitheatre, a impressive castle on the hill overlooking the town and the river. To top it of you also have Asturias bridge with its 20 stone areches that was built in the 17th century.
