GRANADILLA – GHOST TOWN – LOST IN TIME

Granadilla , old manor of Granada, is an old walled town of feudal origin in the northwest of the province of Cáceres , Spain . Since 1960, when it was occupied by the State, it belongs to the municipality of Zarza de Granadilla .Previously it was an important town, capital of the region known as Tierras de Granadilla and head of the judicial district. It was evicted in the mid-twentieth century , when it became a flood zone due to the construction of the Gabriel y Galán reservoir. Today it remains under that cataloging officially, although in no time the town has become flooded, not even with the reservoir full. In 1980, the town was declared a Historic-Artistic Site and, four years later, in 1984, it was chosen for inclusion in the Abandoned Villages Recovery Program .
