Templar fortress of the province of Raragon. It was built on a rocky hill on the west side of the chain of irta, overlooking the plain of Alcala de Xivert.

The castle of Xivert was given to the order of the Knights Templar in 1169 by Alphonso the Chaste while he was still occupied by Muslims. Finally, the Knights Templar took possession in the XII century. They made it the center of a balliage and developed the surrounding agglomerations thanks to charters of settlement (cartas de població). Alcalà de Xivert was founded in 1251 Alcocebre, Almedijar and Castellnou in 1261.
